Before you install

System Requirements

The current release targets Windows, macOS, and Ubuntu-based Linux. Requirements below describe the platform and hardware interface needed to use the application with a PZEM-014 or PZEM-016.

Windows

Windows 10 or Windows 11. The Windows application is distributed as a native build and is signed.

macOS

macOS 15, 26, or 27 Apple Silicon and macOS 15 or 26 Apple Intel Macs.

Linux

LINUX UBUNTU 20, 22, and 24 and Debian 11 (Bullseye) distributions supported by the supplied .deb package and .AppImage. Requires a secret-service credential backend (GNOME Keyring or KWallet) for secure credential storage — included by default on a standard Ubuntu Desktop install. Device permissions may need to be configured for the serial interface.

PZEM hardware

PZEM-014 or PZEM-016 connected through its supported serial/Modbus interface and a compatible computer interface or adapter.

License activation

Initial activation requires an internet connection and a valid license key. After successful activation, the software supports an offline grace period as described in the EULA.

Email alerts

Email-alert features require a configured email provider and network access when sending or checking email. Provider authentication requirements vary.

Important hardware note

The software does not make an electrical installation safe. PZEM modules can be connected to hazardous voltages. Wiring, installation, and modifications should be performed by a properly qualified electrician as required by applicable law.

Linux device access

On Linux, the serial device may appear under names such as /dev/ttyUSB0, /dev/ttyACM0, or another device path depending on the adapter and operating system. The exact path and permission configuration are system-specific.

Linux credential storage

PZEM Power Monitor uses your desktop's secret-service API to store credentials securely, so a backend such as GNOME Keyring or KWallet must be installed and running. This is included by default on a standard Ubuntu Desktop install; minimal installs or non-GNOME desktop environments may need one installed separately.
